Kevin Scott

Senior Pastor

Kevin came to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ at the age of twenty one. He realized his sin, and Jesus was his perfect sin-bearer. He shortly after that met Shelia, they were married in 1987, and they have enjoyed a fruitful marriage for over thirty years.

Soon after Kevin trusted Christ, God gave him a desire to preach. He sought more formal education at Bob Jones University in Greenville South Carolina, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in Bible in 1995. He has continued his love of learning the Scriptures through various online courses. After graduating from university he and his wife moved to Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, and became active members of Grace Baptist Church, where he was ordained and his calling was confirmed by the church for ministering the Word of God. He accepted the call at Emmanuel Baptist Church to become their pastor in 2000.

Kevin loves to run and swim, and go on long walks with Shelia. One of his favourite pastimes is reading. In his ministry, he is committed to expositing the Scriptures one verse at a time in its context, so that people can see the very message of God. It is through the Word of God people are changed into the image of Christ.

Richard Byrne

Associate Pastor

Richard is married to his beloved wife Rachel; together they have experienced God’s patient, merciful grace and have four precious children: Wyatt, Emmett, Aubrey, and Isabelle. Richard heard the gospel proclaimed and was saved as an adult visitor to Emmanuel Baptist Church. Now, by God’s grace, he is currently balancing his time as a husband, a father, an Electrical Engineer, and the Associate Pastor of EBC. In his spare time he loves to read the Bible and theology books or listen to audiobooks and podcasts, with a view to living and teaching what he has learned.

Richard is a Commissioned Addictions Biblical Counselor (CABC) with The Addiction Connection. He is currently pursuing a Master of Arts degree in Biblical Counseling through Central Baptist Theological Seminary in Plymouth, MN, and is in the final phase of the process to become certified by the Association of Certified Biblical Counselors (ACBC). Richard’s seminary instruction has been used of God to give him insight into how the Bible effectively addresses common counseling problems, issues of addiction, and what are commonly called “mental health disorders.” God has brought transformation in his own life through the ministry of God’s Word; now he loves to guide others to the same Saviour who helps him.

Richard has a love for God and His Word, and a desire to make and mature disciples of Jesus Christ in the context of the local church through faithful preaching and teaching. He has a passion for the people of God to embrace the sufficiency of Scripture for all of life, and desires to see the local church equipped for Christ-exalting discipleship as part of the Great Commission.
